The Great Scorch Off 2007

Challenge: Take 12 different hot sauces and pit them against one another to determine which sauce is the grand champion of hot sauces.

Each month for 3 months this site will feature a grouping of 4 different sauces in a head to head taste test with points being given in the categories of “Scorch level”, “Flavor”, and “Linger”.

Scorch Level = how hot in a spicy sense the sauce is
1- Not worthy of the term “hot”
2- Starting to taste something
3- Definitely some bite
4- Breaking a sweat
5- Tears running down your face and numbness of the mouth

Flavor = what makes the sauce worth putting on your wings or burrito

1- Makes you shit, tastes like shit
2- When they say traditional they mean traditional
3- A distinct and enjoyable after taste
4- Enjoyable on nearly anything
5- The right balance of spices and hotness along with an addictive element you just can’t explain

Linger = the duration with which the flavor and effects of the sauce stick with you

1- The only effect is felt on the toilet the next day
2- Remember how average it is while eating it
3- Excited to have it again
4- Buy it, love it and recommended it
5- Can’t stop eating it, put it on everything, numbs the mouth but isn’t painful, sort of euphoric in its effects on you

Cholula Original Hot Sauce
Tabasco Chipotle Hot Sauce
Ron’s Nuckin’ Futs Hot Sauce

Nice man, just came across this while taking a study break. Did you ever write any of those articles for my friends mag?

I actually forgot all about that. When I was going to put an article together it was just before I had to really get moving on my senior paper and then that overwhelmed me enough that I never got around to it. Maybe that's something I'll put together in the coming weeks.
