Comedy in Advertising
We have all had moments flipping through a magazine, turning channels or surfing the net when an ad appears in front of us with a spokesperson that makes us pause and crack up in laughter. The November 2007 issue of Men's Health provided one of these classic opportunities to point and belly howl at an unintentionally hilarious association between someone famous and a product.
Case in point: Eli Manning being coined as "Unstoppable" and compared to a Citizen Eco-Drive watch in this print ad...
Could an NFL quarterback look anymore stoppable than this guy? He has the look of a high school freshman forced by his coach father to wrestle 30 pounds out of his weight class against the star of the varsity team while his Mom looks on in horror and has 91 typed into her cell phone just waiting to dial the extra digit. Lucas had a better shot against Charlie Sheen than Eli does of convincing us he's Unstoppable. What time is it anyway? What do you mean your Citizen-Eco Drive isn't working?
